EcoSafe – these flame-retardant contract fabrics set new standards in sustainability. The fabrics in the EcoSafe collection are biodegradable and offer the functionalities of conventional polyester fabrics.
The fabrics were developed on the basis of the innovative OceanSafe technology, which has been evaluated according to ‘Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold’ throughout the entire value chain. This proves that the fabrics were developed in the sense of a closed circular system.

EcoSafe advantages and functions
naNea
Our EcoSafe products are based on the innovative ‘naNea’ yarn from OceanSafe. naNea is a new co-polyester that is both biodegradable and recyclable. Its polymer structure enables rapid biodegradability in the natural environment without the use of chemical additives. naNea degrades by more than 93% in sea-water within 99 days: tested according to ASTM D6691.
naNea is the first and so far only synthetic textile material in the world to achieve the C2C Certified® Gold Standard for the biological and technical cycle. naNea is proven to be non-persistent. It is manufactured without the use of harmful substances and contains no toxins such as heavy metals, antimony (antimony trioxide), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), endocrine disruptors or phosphorus-based flame retardants.
The textiles are soft, quick-drying, easy-care and, of course, permanently flame retardant.
How does it work?
The polymer structure of naNea has been created to be biodegradable. The polymer is first split by hydrolysis so that it can then be broken down by microorganisms.
The properties of biodegradability are not supported by additives or enzyme technology.

naNea is the first and so far only synthetic textile material in the world for the biological and technical cycle to achieve the C2C Certified® Gold Standard.
The aim of Cradle to Cradle is to leave a positive footprint for the production of a product. No other certification concept assesses products as rigorously and comprehensively as Cradle to Cradle. The following five core areas are certified: material health, recyclability, renewable energies, water balance and social responsibility.

That makes the difference
If the Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold yard goods are made up with conventional sewing thread, the use of the C2C logo is not permitted. However, if sewing thread and other ingredients from naNea are used, the entire product is safe for the biological cycle
Bring it Back
At the end of the product life of the textiles, these are collected via a take-back system and, in accordance with the technical cycle, converted into source materials for the production of new fibres and yarns.
The return is made to Delius. There the textiles are collected and sent back to OceanSafe to close the cycle.
